What is Mindful Eating?
Mindful eating - this is a term that is gaining more popularity and you may be wondering - "What exactly is it? How can mindful eating help me?" Well I'm glad you asked!
Mindful Eating (or Intuitive Eating) focuses on creating an overall healthy relationship with your food, mind, and body. It is distinguishing between physical and emotional feelings of hunger. It’s the process of making peace with food---so that you no longer have constant "food worry" thoughts. Restrictions, rules, and regimented eating are the behaviors that get in the way of a healthy relationship with food.
Is this how you feel sometimes?
Becoming a more intuitive eater helps with overall weight management because without restriction there is no deprivation that often leads to binging (and overall yo yo dieting).
You can begin being a more mindful eating right now! Try mastering one step at a time, and don't worry if some steps are harder to get over than others. Usually the longer the restricted behaviors, the harder it is to re-learn you body's natural eating pattern,
• Reject the diet mentality
• Honor your hunger
• Make peace with food
• Respect your fullness
• Discover when you are satisfied with enough food
• Honor your feelings without using food
• Respect your body
• Exercise to feel the difference rather than just a calorie burn
• Honor your health with gentle nutrition (no restrictions!)
I challenge you all to begin the process of re-discovering your inner intuitive eater! We were born with all the wisdom needed for mindful eating!
