What is Nutrition Counseling Like?
Coming in for a nutrition counseling appointment can be something that you've been putting off. Who wants to be told a bunch of things they "should't" eat? Not me!
Which is why I wouldn't do the same for you!
In my office it's not all about your weight and eating all the veggies. There's more to health than that. Health starts from within. I believe it starts with a happy heart. Nutrition counseling is not a one size fits all approach. I will strive to understand your needs, preferences, and goals in order to offer realistic and personalized solutions for your nutrition and health concerns.
Nutrition counseling provides an opportunity to discuss past and present concerns surrounding food, often deepening self understanding, teaching new approaches to eating, and preparing for the future. I find it to be more beneficial to discuss behaviors associated with food and eating before talking about any dietary changes. To me, it's not the food itself that's unhealthy, but more so how we act with it (ie: binging, restricting, only eating certain foods at certain times, emotional eating etc.)
Sooner rather than later, I will likely drop the term "Intuitive Eating." Intuitive Eating is a concept coined by two dietitians who brought to light that dieting is not the only way to eat and live. Their book outlines all the starting points.
