Cookbooks

Hi all! I hope you all had a wonderful and relaxing Thanksgiving however you chose to spend the day.

Today I want to talk about cookbooks! These can be a great resource to have on hand. I realize there are more food blogs and Instagram accounts than ever before, and your Pinterest may serve as a “cookbook collection” in lieu of hardcopy books, but think of this - first off, cookbooks can be a great gift idea (it’s almost December as crazy as that seems!), and something you can keep and use for the rest of your life. And heck, if nothing else, they can be decorative in your kitchen or on a bookshelf ;)

However cookbooks (much like everything else in our culture) are not immune to fear mongering around food.

There are some really nice cookbooks that focus on Intuitive Eating or the “all foods fit” mentality. Especially for folx recovering from disordered eating or an eating disorder, cooking in general may seem really daunting and foreign, and that’s okay! If that’s the case, cookbooks can be a helpful way to ease into meal preparation and cooking for yourself to provide adequate, consistent, and yummy nutrition.

Here are some favorites to treat yo’ self to or add to your holiday list for you or others:

  1. Emily Weeks RDN LD, “Kindred Table: Intuitive Eating for Families”

  2. Kim Hoban RD CDN CPT, “How to Cook Vegetables: Essential Skills and 90 Foolproof Recipes (with 270 Variations)”

  3. Tieghan Gerard, “Half Baked Harvest Cookbook: Recipes from My Barn in the Mountains” and “Half Baked Harvest Super Simple: More Than 125 Recipes for Instant, Overnight, Meal-Prepped, and Easy Comfort Foods: A Cookbook”

  4. Gaby Dalkin “What's Gaby Cooking: Everyday California Food” and “What’s Gaby Cooking: Eat What You Want: 125 Recipes for Real Life”

  5. Chrissy Teigen, “Cravings: Recipes for All the Food You Want to Eat: A Cookbook” and “Cravings: Hungry for More: A Cookbook”

  6. Rachel Hartley, "Gentle Nutrition: A Non-Diet Approach to Healthy Eating"

If you have any favorites I’d love to hear from you and continue adding to my list! Until next time, have a great rest of the week!
