Feeling "Hangry" is Real!

Have you ever noticed that everything feels a little harder when you're hungry? You snap more easily, feel more irritated, or have less patience than usual. It turns out there's science behind that feeling.
A 2022 study asked participants to check in with their hunger and emotions five times a day for three weeks. Researchers found that when people were hungrier, they were also more likely to feel angry, irritable and less happy overall. These findings stayed true regardless of differences between the participants.
When you're not eating enough, skipping meals, or going too long without food, your brain and body aren't getting the energy they need to function at their best. That can make emotions feel stronger, stress feel heavier, and daily frustrations much harder to manage.
This is one of the many reasons why eating consistently is such an important part of recovery. Regular nourishment doesn't just help your body heal; it also supports your mood, your ability to cope with challenges, and your overall well-being.
Basically, being “hangry” is a real thing!
The next time you feel unusually emotional or irritable, try asking yourself “when is the last time I’ve eaten?”.
Sometimes the kindest thing you can do for yourself isn't to push through the feeling… it's to have the snack, eat the meal, and give your body the nourishment it's asking for.
